I understand the impetuous for this, but I don’t like it. It’ s just trading one confusing coordinate system for another. Lat/Long is a mess, but there is UTM or MGRS . At least with those you know when you are getting close or know how far things are from other things. IF you still want some other “address”, why not plus code?

I agree with you. Is the idea that, in case of an emergency, you’d already have the app on your phone with all the data pre-loaded, so you wouldn’t need to have a data connection to determine your lat-long location, but you may still be able to get out an SMS message?

“Google Maps doesn’t make it easy to share a location in the middle of, say, Central Park or Hyde Park to organise a meeting point, and usually isn’t helpful if you want to navigate directly to a specific building entrance”
This is a very
good point, but...
It says Gmap pins aren’t accurate, but what if you drop a pin and then share that (I assume it’s using WGS84 lat-longs)? I don’t see how that’s any worse than what they’re doing.

the lat/long is just as accurate as 3 words. more actually. and w3w uses Google's api. makes no sense to me

I really don’t get it. Maybe dropping a pin in Gmap and sharing it is too challenging for some people?
There is zero chance that this will catch on and turn into a widely used thing.

As far as I’m aware...it wasn’t really designed or intended for nations or parts of the world where physical addresses actually exist. It is apparently best suited to human environments like slums and large but disorganised cities....though quite how it might manage in a favela on a steep hill is questionable.
For the rest of us, it is just a novelty. Hence my misuse of it.

This is an appropriate use of the technology.
